Join Cambridge Islamic Art for a unique public demonstration celebrating the sacred arts of the Ottoman tradition, led by internationally acclaimed master calligrapher Shahryanshah Sirajuddin and master illuminator Fatma Ulusoy Sirajuddin.

For centuries, Islamic calligraphy and illumination (Tezhip) have been regarded not merely as artistic disciplines, but as profound acts of devotion. During this special event, the masters will explore the rich history, philosophy, and enduring legacy of Ottoman calligraphy and illumination, offering insights into the traditional methods that have been carefully preserved and transmitted through generations.

The presentation will conclude with a live demonstration, in which Shahryanshah Sirajuddin Hoca will compose the Basmalah (Bismillāh al-Raḥmān al-Raḥīm) using the classical Ottoman calligraphic tradition, while Fatma Ulusoy Sirajuddin Hoca will create a delicate Halkar illumination, showcasing the harmonious relationship between calligraphy and ornamentation.
