Ayten Tiryaki

Ayten Tiryaki (b. 1961) was born in Ordu, Turkey and completed her postgraduate degree from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University in 1983. In the same year she began taking calligraphy lessons from the grand master calligrapher Hasan Çelebi. In 1989 she became the first female calligrapher to ever receive a Tezhip (the art of illumination) license after studying under Professor Çiçek Derman and assistant Professor Inci Ayan Birol.

Tiryaki's work has been exhibited in galleries in Turkey and abroad and her exquisite calligraphy has won her many prestigious awards. She continues to teach calligraphy in Istanbul and is widely held as one of the most talented calligraphers in Turkey today.
